CHAPTER JURISDICTION

DSA assigns members to chapters geographically, based on their zip code. The set of zip codes that are linked to individual chapters therefore constitute a chapter’s “jurisdiction” or “territory.” Not everyone may have a chapter nearby, however. Members whose zip codes are not within any chapter jurisdiction are assigned a status of “at-large.” A list of all existing DSA chapters can be found here.

There are numerous DSA chapters and organizing committees (pre-chapters) throughout the Carolinas. To the west of Charlotte is Asheville DSA. To the north and east is NC Piedmont DSA, which has branches in Chapel Hill/Carrboro, Durham, and Raleigh. There are also chapters in Winston-Salem and Greensboro. On the coast, there is an organizing committee in Wilmington. To the south of us is Columbia DSA and Charleston DSA. Charlotte Metro DSA’s “jurisdiction” spans both North and South Carolina and is shown on the maps below. Our jurisdiction also encompasses two YDSA chapters - UNCC and Davidson.
